SendOnCard™
case study
We don't just advise on payment products.
We've built one.
Picture
SendOnCard™ was AcceptLocal's own fintech product: a real-time money transfer platform that moved funds card-to-card over the Visa network, locally and internationally, in seconds — at a target price of 2% + $2, compared with a worldwide average remittance cost above 7%.

Between 2015 and 2019, AcceptLocal's founder conceived the product, funded it, and led a 20-person development team through two years of build to a working beta on web, iOS, and Android — hosted on AWS, built to PCI DSS requirements, and operating under AcceptLocal's FINTRAC-registered MSB.

What made it different:

Instant settlement, no FX exposure.
Because funds moved in real time over card rails, neither the platform nor partner institutions had to hold customer funds across two countries or carry FX volatility risk between initiation and delivery — collapsing the classic two-sided MSB cost structure that keeps remittance prices high.
Compliance automated from day one.
Onboarding used automated ID-document scanning with two-factor authentication including biometrics; KYC, sanctions, and fraud screening were built into the platform core rather than bolted on.
A turn-key white-label platform for financial institutions.
Beyond the consumer apps, SendOnCard was built as an enterprise product: a full FI-facing portal where partner institutions could configure their own transaction fees and FX markups, view real-time dashboards of transaction flows, acceptance rates, and cashflow, manage fraud-prevention and AML controls, and extract — or automatically submit — compliance and marketing reports, with connections into accounting software and banking partners.

Why it ended — and what it taught us.

Visa's network licensing requirements ultimately weren't workable for a single-founder company, and rather than carry cloud infrastructure and a full development team indefinitely while waiting, we wound the product down cleanly — exiting contracts, infrastructure, and regulatory obligations in good order.
That experience is now a service. AcceptLocal's consulting is informed by every stage of SendOnCard's life: product architecture and build, card-scheme certification requirements, BIN sponsorship and banking partnerships, MSB licensing and compliance operations, and — when circumstances call for it — how to exit a regulated payments business properly. We've sat on the applicant's side of the scheme-licensing table. That's exactly why we're effective on yours.
